If it is digital then someone can see it

Let me be clear here, no matter what anyone tells you;

if it is made of 1s and 0s then someone somewhere can read it!

As the creator of HaYa I know a thing or two about internet security and I can tell you that no matter what promises companies make, if is digital then someone can see it. This might not be immediate or easy but eventually the data can be gotten at and read.

Let me give you some examples:

End to End Encryption: (as covered in this post) data is only encrypted during transmission but it is then decrypted at each end which means that all you need to do is view data from the end point.

Hard Disk Encryption: You can encrypt the data on your hard disk so if someone steals your laptop they cannot access this data unless they have your “key”. This key is generated by the system for encryption which subsequently means that at some point in time this key has been shown to you and that means that this key is stored somewhere (even though it might be temporary) like your OS and this can be accessed by some third party.

Blockchain: Even with Blockchain everything relies on keys and as long as keys are viewable by the human eye because they have been generated it means that they are stored somewhere else that can be accessed.

Of course there are laborious ways to encrypt data and then physically destroy the generator of the key so that it can never be accessed but short of you having a photographic memory you are going to write it down somewhere. Then we get into old school analogue spying.

Anyway I am more interested in the everyday user, we think we can trust all these promises to be secure but in reality you can’t. Certainly you can take steps to make it harder for people to access your data but my general advice is;

always assume that someone somewhere can see your data

HaYa plug! At HaYa we state that it is an incognito system, it is built to make your identity as protected as we can, that means the we make it very difficult (but can’t make it impossible) to find out your identity. As my tech guru David says; “Its anonymous enough” for what it is designed to be.
